Meet Our Current Editors

Lisa M. Lines, PhD, MPH has been a member of the Medical Care Editorial Board since 2013 and co-founded The Medical Care Blog in 2014. She is a senior health services researcher at RTI International, an independent, non-profit research institute. She is also Assistant Professor of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Lines conducts research on the social, behavioral, political, and commercial drivers of health,  social inequity,health outcomes, and the quality and costs of care, especially among people with chronic illness. Dr. Lines joined the American Public Health Association in 2006 and has held several leadership positions in the Medical Care Section, including section councilor and chair of the communications and membership committees. She led the section’s Health Equity Committee from 2015-2023. She received a PhD in Clinical and Population Health Research from UMassMed, an MPH from UMass Amherst, and a BS from Northeastern University.

 

Gregory D. Stevens, PhD, MHS has been a contributor to the blog since it was founded and joined the editorial team in September, 2018. He is a professor of public health at California State University, Los Angeles. He focuses his efforts on teaching and writing, leading graduate courses on health policy, comparative health systems, and research and evaluation. He is also an author of the book Vulnerable Populations in the United States, now in its third edition. His research is focused on health care systems, with a focus on primary care and these issues as they affect children. Dr. Stevens holds a PhD and MHS in Health Care Policy from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a BA from University of California, San Diego.

 

 

Dr. Ben King is joining our editorial team at the Medical Care BlogBen King, PhD, MPH joined The Medical Care Blog as an editor at the end of 2023. He is an epidemiologist by training and an Assistant Professor at the University of Houston’s Tilman J Fertitta Family College of Medicine, in the Departments of Health Systems and Population Health Sciences & Behavioral and Social Sciences. He is also a statistician in the UH Humana Integrated Health Systems Sciences Institute at UH and the President of Methods & Results, a research consulting service. His own research is often focused on the intersection between poverty, housing, & health. Other interests include environmental health, neuro-emergencies, diagnostics, and a bunch of meta-topics like measurement validation & replication studies. For what it’s worth, he has degrees in neuroscience, community health management, and epidemiology.

JessicaWilliamsJessica A. Williams, PhD served as a member of the Medical Care editorial board and a co-founding editor of The Medical Care Blog from 2013-2023. She is an Associate Professor of Health Policy and Administration at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park, PA. Her research examines how workplace psychosocial factors affect the health and well-being of employees. Specifically, she investigates how organizational and management-level factors affect employees in different industries. In addition, she researches the utilization of preventive medical services. She holds a Doctorate in Health Policy and Management from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, a Master’s in Economics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a BA in economics from Stanford University.
